I read so many stories, so many, that have a good idea.  The story itself is a good story, it has all the things that story is supposed to have.  The plot is good, the characters are full, the climax is a fantastic idea--and the way the story is written is absolutely awful.  Consequently, nobody reads it.

To get people to read your story, you have to be a master at the language.  The language I will use as an example is English, because it is the only one which I have mastered.

Yes, master.

There is more than one aspect to mastering language.

#1.  Syntax.  Syntax is the arrangement of words and phrases to construct a well-formed sentence and the analysis of the sentences.

#2  Vocabulary.  This is simply the total of the words used in a language.

#3  Grammar.   Grammar is the structure in which a language is composed.

Just because you speak a language, doesn't mean you have mastered it.  I know many a person who is perfectly understandable, yet uses absolutely horrible grammar.  "Where you at?" is a common one around my parts.  Or, more appropriately, "Whary'at?"

There are just as many people I know, and you do to, who speak with fine grammar, and their syntax is awful.  They couldn't make a pretty sentence to save their lives.  "I'm going to the bank.  Do you want to come?"  Wouldn't it sound much better if one said, "I'm going to the bank, would you like to come with me?"

And then there are the people who simply don't know a lot of words.  They know a little words.  They know very little words, like is and it.  :)  They simply don't have a large pool of words to pick from when writing, so their language is redundant.

In order to master a language, or master anything, one has to apprentice in it.  People nowadays don't like to apprentice in anything.  They want to be masters immediately, and that is not how it works.  First you apprentice, then you become a journeyman, then you are a master!

Let's start your apprenticeship!

*If you can find how many grammatical rules I broke in this journal entry, I will give you a llama and kudos.*

You have no idea how valuable these advices are to me. I only write for fun, but God help me, I pull my hair out at my own works sometimes. The frustration is excruciating...
